There is substantial merit in the Toyota Chairman’s statement that Battery EVs are not for everybody. Look at the state of several countries, including mine. Few trains connect places. And, believe me, rail travel is hazardous in India, regardless of what the government says. A network of roads—shoddy, snail-speed—has gradually been built and is the only means of communication for citizens. Most use buses, which are far from being electric, and a few use cars and taxis. Now in a country which can’t spell “infrastructure”, what will a BEV car-owner or taxi-operator do after 300 miles? 99% of the country hasn’t even heard of battery-charging stations. A massive infrastructure push is on, with high-speed high-quality highways, but we are 70 years late, and it’ll take time to build other facilities around all this new infrastructure. Yessir, the BEV is not for everyone.
